Connecting to ChatGPT
Use your existing ChatGPT subscription to create games on CodeWisp without spending CodeWisp credits. This guide walks you through the three steps to get started.
Prefer not to connect ChatGPT? You can keep building with CodeWisp credits instead. See our general getting-started guide for the credits path.
Step 1 — Sign in or create your CodeWisp account

You need a CodeWisp account before you can connect ChatGPT.
- Sign in or Sign up at codewisp.ai/sign-up (email, Google, or Apple).
- If prompted, finish setup at codewisp.ai/complete-signup — confirm you are 13 or older and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
- Sign in at codewisp.ai/sign-in if you already have an account.

Step 2 — Connect your ChatGPT account
This links your ChatGPT plan to CodeWisp so AI game generation bills to ChatGPT instead of credits.
Before you start
Important
- This is not official OpenAI API access, and CodeWisp is not affiliated with OpenAI.
- You are responsible for following OpenAI's terms for your own ChatGPT account. OpenAI can limit or suspend your ChatGPT account at any time.
- You need a ChatGPT plan that includes Codex access.
Connect
- Open the model picker on the Create page or in the game editor OR open Settings and find ChatGPT connection

- Click Connect ChatGPT.
- A dialog will pop-up. Copy the provided code and click on “Open ChatGPT”

- Click Open ChatGPT and follow the steps to log-in to your ChatGPT account until you see a screen similar to the one below, where you can paste the code you just copied.

- Return to CodeWisp and wait until you see Connected as …

If authorization fails
- Code expired — close the dialog, click Connect ChatGPT again, and use the new code.
- ChatGPT won't accept the code — in ChatGPT, go to Security settings and make sure device code authorization for Codex is enabled.
- In case you get an error when signing-in with a message like “Enable device code authorization for Codex”, follow the next steps. If already connected successfully, continue on to step 5
- Close tab/window and go to straight to chatgpt.com. Once there, click on the bottom-left corner to open the settings panel
- In the settings panel, check for the ”Security and login”. Then, scroll to the bottom of it and click on

- Account already linked — that ChatGPT email is connected to a different CodeWisp account. Disconnect it there first, or use a different ChatGPT account.
- Rate or plan limits — wait and try again, or switch to CodeWisp credits in the model picker.
You're done when: Settings or the model picker shows your ChatGPT account as connected.
What's next
- Develop Further — if you followed the steps above, you can continue discovering what the editor has to offer and how you can make your games better in 4. How to identify what needs to improve
- Disconnect ChatGPT — anytime from Settings or the model picker; after disconnecting, AI generation uses credits again.
